Lawn weeds, wallum and weed control Wurtulla
Local context
The Currimundi Lake (Kathleen McArthur) Conservation Park protects a remnant of wallum heath in Wurtulla's south-east. Since 2012 the Friends of Currimundi Lake have spent one day a month there with Queensland Parks and Wildlife, removing environmental weeds by hand and revegetating. Yards on the park's edge back straight onto that work.
Common challenges
Lawn weeds here arrive in waves. Industry guidance from Lawn Solutions Australia puts bindii setting prickly seed in spring and summer after a winter start, summer grass and crowsfoot as warm-season annuals, cudweed in mid-spring to early summer or autumn, and winter grass in the cool months. Crowsfoot spreads fast in an unhealthy lawn, and dollarweed is an industry indicator of wet soil.
Why it matters
The lawn and the water's edge need opposite approaches. After its glyphosate review, the national regulator, the APVMA, says only glyphosate products with aquatic-use label approval may be used in or near aquatic areas. Weed control near waterways is therefore a job for careful hands, not a broad spray.
Our approach
Weed control Wurtulla jobs split each yard into play lawn, beds and boundary. Lawn weeds are treated to suit the turf and the season, beds are hand weeded, and the lake, canal or park edge is cleared physically, with treatment kept back.
